Orlando Bloom (Orlando Jonathan Blanchard Bloom) was born on 13 January, 1977 in Canterbury, Kent, England to Sonia Copeland and Harry Bloom. Orlando's mother was born in Calcutta, India and is the daughter of Betty Constance Josephine Walker and Francis John Copeland. His father, Harry was South African-born Jewish lawyer. Actually it was thought that Harry is his father, but his mother later revealed that his biological father was Colin Stone, a family friend. Bloom has elder sister Samantha born in 1975.

In Canterbury, Bloom attended St Edmund's School. At that time he was also suffered by dyslexia. In 1997, Bloom moved to London. In London Bloom joined the National Youth Theatre and spent two years there. In National Youth Theatre, Bloom, earned a scholarship to train at the British American Drama Academy.

In 1997, Bloom appeared in television series "Casuality". The same year Bloom landed his debut film "Wilde" with Stephen Fry. Bloom later attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and studied acting, sculpture and photography. In 1998, an accident occur with Bloom in which his back get broken. It was thought that he would never walk again, but he was completely recovered and was able to walk within 14 days. Bloom now regularly does Yoga a Pilates to strengthen his back.

After graduating from Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Bloom was casted with major role in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy (2001-2003), where he played a role of Elf Legolas. By this film Bloom got the attention of every audience. From a unknown actor he became the best-known celebrity. In 2002, Bloom was listed in "25 Hottest Stars Under 25" and also named the hottest Hollywood bachelor in People's 2004 list.

The every cast of Rings was niminated at Screen Actors Guild Awards as Best Ensemble Acting for three year, while finally own in 2003 for there third film "The Return of the King". In 2003, Bloom landed role in "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" alongside Keira Knightley and Johnny Depp. It was again a blockbuster hit.

Bloom next appeared with lead roles in "Kingdom of Heaven (2005)" and in "Elizabethtown (2005)" with Kirsten Dunst. Both the films were not able to impress audiences. While Kingdom of Heaven was received well outside the United States. The sequel of Pirates of the Caribbean i.e. "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" was released on July 7, 2006.

Bloom's upcoming movies include the third sequel of "Pirates of the Caribbean 3" which will release on May 25, 2007 and "Seasons of Dust" with current girl-friend Kate Bosworth, which will also release in 2007.
