Mariah Carey - Biography

A great musician, superstar singer and a songwriter Mariah Carey was born on March 27 1970 in New York. Her father is Alfred Carey who was an aeronautical engineer of Afro-Venezuelan descent and mother named Patricia Hickey was a former opera singer and voice coach of Irish American Roman Catholic extraction.

Because of some problems the family was relocated in the New York and Rhode Island areas. When Mariah was of three years old her mother and father were separated out. Her mother who also a singer worked several jobs and supported the family.

Mariah spends her most of the time in the house only so that her mind moved towards music and she started singing from the age of three only. She performed for the first time in front of the public during elementary school. She also started writing her own songs from that time.

Mariah Carey was graduated from Harborfields High School in Greenlawn, New York. While completing her graduation she also giving demo's at local recording studios. Her work at Huntington music scene gave her opportunity to work with the two well known musicians Gavin Christopher and Ben Margulies.

Then She moved to New York and done numerous part-time jobs to complete five hundred hours of beauty school and to pay rent of home where she lived. She became a backup singer for Brenda K. Starr. In 1998 she met Tommy Mottola a Columbia Record's executive in the party and he signed her to a recording contract.

Because of her heartbreaker performance in her first single from the album Rainbow, she became the top artist on the charts of every year of 1090's. Also the single We Belong Together from The Emancipation of Mimi is the 16th #1 single. It was then moved to nineth #1 chart topper at R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart.

Mariah Carey got many awards. Some of her most prestigious awards include 5 Grammies, numerous Radio Music Awards, Billboard's "Artist of the Decade" Award, numerous Grammy nominations, many American Music Awards and the World Music Award fro World's Best selling Female Artist of the Millennium.
