Katie Holmes was born on 18 December, 1978 in Toledo, Ohio. She was born as Kate Noelle Holmes. Her nickname is Kate. Katie Holmes's father, Martin Holmes is a lawyer and mother, Kathy Holmes is a homemaker. Katie Holmes is elder in her house. She has three older sisters, Holly, Tamera and Nancy and a brother, Martin, Jr. was a lawyer.

As a teenager, Katie attended Margaret O'Brien's Modeling School in Toledo, Ohio. At the age of 16, her teacher invited her for a modeling competition. In June 1997, Katie Holmes was graduated from Notre Dame Academy, an all-girls Roman Catholic school in Toledo, Ohio.
